Public speaking and oration are sometimes considered some of the most importantly valued skills that an individual can possess. This skill can be used for almost anything. Public speaking pace should be slower and more deliberate than conversational speech. What may seem to be too slow to the speaker is very likely just right for the audience.

Audiences can be put off you if you sound hesitant, unsure of yourself or if you sound over-confident or arrogant. Most audiences feel very comfortable and will listen to you if you are honest, warm, friendly, and show that you care about the issues affecting them. Audiences made up of individuals who have retained in varying degrees the aptitude for being “in fun” provide the humorous speaker with a great challenge; that of reaching all present. Like Charlie says, some members of the audience are thinking, “OK Buster, lets see if you can make me laugh .

Preparation, including audience analysis and adaptation, enhances the effectiveness of public speaking. Through this course, you can improve the quality of your speaking voice by developing and delivering persuasive messages using supporting materials. Prepare rich background notes and save these as short text files. Create a database with fields for filename, author, date, source, topic, and a 20-word summary.

Remember that public speaking is only one aspect of your: job, personal or university life. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, so. Remember, even if they aren’t speaking, you can still have a two-way conversation. Remember, you want to reach the entire community, and successful and effective presentations are not limited to conventional venues. For starters, contact your local chamber of commerce and United Way for a list of local community organizations.
