The holiday season is a time for shopping, gift giving and eating. Lots of eating. If you are on a diet, this can be the toughest time of year to stick to it. No matter how much willpower you have, you will always find yourself by a plate of tempting cookies or a Christmas cake.
There are many things to pull you off your path of dieting discipline. Parties, get togethers, plates of cookies mysteriously appearing at work. That cake that you feel obligated to have a piece of. However, there are a couple things you can do that can help. Read on.
The first is the best, and the hardest. Pure willpower. To feel that strong desire to shove all the cookies you can see in your mouth, but stand there smiling and not eating anything. Then going home and eating a bowl of oatmeal. It’s no wonder this is the least popular strategy. While you’ll feel really good if you keep to this, it won’t be much fun.
Next is pre planning and avoidance strategies. This means to fill your stomach up with water and low calorie fillers. That way those cookies, that cake, those jugs of eggnog won’t seem so tempting. Of course, this requires planning, and a strong defense mentality. While less difficult than pure willpower, this isn’t much fun either.
The most popular strategy is to just suspend all hope completely of not gaining any weight, and eat to your hearts content. That way you can fully enjoy yourself, and any holiday cheer you may find. The obvious downside to this is that sooner or later, you’re going to have to pay the piper.
What may be the most sensible thing to do is to combine these strategies into a plan that works best for you. Maybe allow yourself on or two events to really let yourself loose and eat an drink like there’s no tomorrow. That way, you can have your cake, and eat it as well.
